V8 Supercar Championship rookie driver Daniel Gaunt and his rookie team Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport (LDM) came away from the opening two rounds of 2010 in the Middle East recently pleased with the progress that they have made.

Gaunt and LDM showed plenty of progression throughout the two rounds in the Middle East, which visited both the World-class Abu Dhabi and Bahrain circuits; aboard their # 30 Gulf Western Oil backed VE Holden Commodore.

The New Zealand based driver explained that the opening two rounds were about gelling with the team and finishing each of the two races at both the Abu Dhabi and Bahrain circuits and pleased to reach those goals.

“Our goals were not too ambitious heading over to the Middle East, as we know we have to crawl before we walk in the main game and everyone within the team was satisfied with the outcome from the opening two rounds,” commented Gaunt. “Everyone in our team worked great together and we all know the areas that we need to work on and I’m very much looking forward to the remainder of the season.”

One of the talking points from the debut of the LDM team in this year’s V8 Supercar Championship has been their sensational livery of their # 30 Gulf Western Oil backed VE Holden Commodore.

“This year all the teams in the V8 Supercar Championship have raised the bar in terms of their car presentation and to have fans come up to me and comment about how they think our team has the best looking car in the pit area is quite a compliment,” added Gaunt.

The next round of the V8 Supercar Championship is going to be held on the weekend of March 11 – 14 on the streets of Adelaide (South Australia) for the Clipsal 500 and this is one event that Gaunt and the LDM team are very much looking forward to.

“Adelaide is a circuit that I have past experience to fall back on and there is no doubt that is going to help build up more speed and hopefully move us towards the front more,” enthused the 25-year-old from Auckland. “With Adelaide being a street circuit there is no doubt that there is going to be plenty of action. The goals for the weekend are to stay out of harm’s way and hopefully in a position to be able to benefit from doing that in terms of track position.”

Heading into the third round of theV8 Supercar Championship for 2010 Gaunt and his LDM team currently sit 25th in the overall point standings.

Gaunt would like to say a special thanks to Gulf Western Oil for all their support and the entire LDM team for all their efforts.
