Rose And Crambrook Form Strong Combination

Former leading V8 Supercar privateer Mal Rose heads into the ’Ten Years of Legends’ event, which is part of the opening round of the 2010 Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series on the streets of Adelaide in South Australia this weekend, aiming for a solid performance.

Rose will partner former Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series champion Layton Crambrook aboard his # 71 Ice Break Real Iced Coffee supported VE Holden Commodore and there is only one goal for the Western Sydney (NSW) racer this weekend.

“My job is to help put Layton [Crambrook] in the best possible position after the opening round to win back his Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series and nothing else,” stated Rose, who rates his career highlight as a Top 10 result with Bob Pearson in the Bathurst 1000. “It’s certainly going to be an interesting weekend as there will be the mixture of unfamiliar drivers of V8 Utes and on a tight street circuit, so staying out of trouble is going to be one of the keys to a successful weekend.”

In terms of combinations for the ‘Ten Years of Legends’ event, Rose feels that Crambrook and him are one of the strongest in terms of compatibility.

“We’ve done a little bit of testing together and our lap times were very closely matched and that was a very encouraging,” he said. “Like any form of endurance racing, it’s very important to be closely matched with your co-driver and that gives Layton and I plenty of confidence in terms of being one of the strong contenders.”

The combination of Crambrook and Rose certainly rates as one of the strongest, especially due to their association with one another.

“Layton and I have known each other for quite a while and he is part of my Supercar experience driving school as one of the drivers and we’ve also done a few international endurance events together and that is what makes our combination even stronger,” added Rose.

The ‘Ten Years of Legends’ event will see each driver take part in practice and qualifying sessions, then contest two races each and then combined in the third and final race for a mini endurance event that is to include a mandatory driver change.
