Rowse, The Heir Apparent, Readies For Reward

Wednesday 22 Dec 2010

With a 67 point lead, Victorian Tim Rowse needs just two good results out of the three races that make up round six, to secure the Australian Saloon Car Series for 2010 at Sandown over this weekend, October 23-24.

The Commodore driver needs to have 41 points up on his nearest rival with a race to go, and the crown is his. After a third placing in the last round at Morgan Park, Rowse was cautiously optimistic. “In reality I am a win and a half away but I can’t get too carried away yet,” he said.

The nearest threat to Rowse is ironically his team and fellow Holden driver Simon Tabinor. Three results near Rowse won’t be enough to wrestle away his almost one-handed grip on the title – only something unforseen will change the scenario. Similarly defending champion Shawn Jamieson will be hoping both have mechanical issues that will put him back in serious contention. He failed to score a point last time out after gearbox issues.

The three are likely to finish first, second and third in whatever order while the race-within-a-race will be the battle for fourth between the Ford Falcons of Chris Milton, Geoff Brown and Brad Piggott will entertaining as well.

Making life hard for the “magnificent seven” fighting for series placings will be the fast semi regulars in the form of Andrew Nowland, Dave Heath and Corey Ludeman in their Fords while in the Trophy Class (for the older model cars) Victorian Alf Kuusela and his Falcon EA need just a handful of points to win from the Commodore VN of Tony McKenzie (SA).
